Polish Prime Minister warns that a US military intervention in Greenland would be a geopolitical catastrophe.
TUSK: US INTERVENTION IN GREENLAND WOULD BE A CATASTROPHE
During Thursday’s press conference, Gazeta.pl journalist Marta Rawicz asked whether a forcible takeover of Greenland by the United States is realistic. Tusk responded that such an action would be a political catastrophe from Poland’s perspective.
“Conflict or an attempt to seize the territory of a NATO country by another NATO country – especially by the United States – would be the end of the world as we know it, which has guaranteed our security for decades,” said Tusk.
TUSK REFUSES TO SPECULATE ON GREENLAND TAKEOVER POSSIBILITY
As the Prime Minister emphasized, “I don’t want to speculate” whether the takeover of Greenland is possible. Tusk noted his critical attitude towards many decisions and events that take place on the other side of the Atlantic.
“Unfortunately, no scenario can be ruled out, given the actions of President Trump’s administration so far. Every scenario is possible,” Tusk stated, adding that Trump has repeatedly shown he values unpredictability and surprising allies.
PRIME MINISTER RULES OUT POLISH TROOPS IN GREENLAND
Earlier, the Prime Minister was asked by a Reuters reporter whether Poland, following the example of France, Germany, Sweden, and Norway, would send its troops to Greenland.
“No, we do not plan to send Polish soldiers to Greenland,” Tusk replied briefly.
MORAWIECKI: POLAND HAS NO INFLUENCE IN GREENLAND SITUATION
On the same day, former Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki in an interview with Radio ZET said that in the matter of Greenland, Poland has no influence on the situation.
“We should observe and be restrained,” assessed the PiS politician, adding that he hopes Denmark will reach an agreement with the United States.
