Tusk Warns: Weakness Has No Place in EU

Donald Tusk warns concessions are signs of weakness as EU braces for emergency summit over US demands for Greenland.

Tusk: Europe Cannot Afford Weakness

On Tuesday, January 20, Donald Tusk stated on X that “concessions are always signs of weakness.” He emphasized, “Europe cannot afford weakness—neither towards enemies nor allies. Accommodation yields no results, only humiliation. European resolve and confidence have become essential.”

Newsom Criticizes EU’s Response to Greenland

At the same day’s Davos Economic Forum, California Governor Gavin Newsom criticized Europe’s cautious stance on Greenland. He stated, “I should have brought knee pads for world leaders. It’s simply pathetic. I hope people understand how shameful they look on the international stage. It’s a disgrace,” adding he “cannot bear this subservience.”

Parliamentary Unity on Sovereignty

During a Strasbourg session, a rare consensus emerged among pro and eurosceptic forces regarding Greenland. Danish MEP Christel Schaldemose declared, “President Trump, threats aside, Greenland is not for sale.” Jordan Bardella (far-right) stated, “The EU cannot remain silent. This is about defending sovereignty, not escalation. We don’t want to be vassals; we want to be masters of our own destiny.” Danish MEP Villy Sovndal added, “Hands off Greenland.”
