Donald Tusk warned former Justice Minister Zbigniew Ziobro not to be remembered as a “fujara” or “miękiszon” and urged him to face independent justice following his flight to Hungary for a meeting with Viktor Orbán.
Tusk’s Warning at PM Council Meeting
During a meeting of the Council of Ministers on November 4, 2023, Donald Tusk addressed former Justice Minister Zbigniew Ziobro, saying he must not be remembered as a “fujara” or “miękiszon” and that Ziobro should confront an independent judiciary in Poland.
Ziobro’s Recent Departure to Hungary
Ziobro had recently traveled to Hungary, where he reportedly met with Prime Minister Viktor Orbán, prompting concern among Polish political circles.
Ziobro’s Own Use of the Terms
Ziobro has previously used the terms “fujara” and “miękiszon” in parliamentary speeches, accusing opposition lawmakers of destabilizing the constitution and threatening criminal acts.
Legal Allegations Against Ziobro
He faces 26 alleged crimes related to failing duties, exceeding powers, heading a criminal group, and misappropriating funds from the Justice Fund. Prosecutors consider him capable of obstructing investigations, and a motion to lift his immunity has been tabled.
Call for Accountability
Prime Minister Tusk stated that the only way for Ziobro to explain the accusations is through lawful, compliant proceedings, rejecting any notion of fleeing to seek asylum, such as in Budapest.
