Tusk’s Head Flights Feature a Familiar Face

Donald Tusk’s 56 Head‑status trips from January to October 2024 reveal that Igor Ostachowicz joined him on the majority of flights.

What Is a Head Flight?

In Poland, a Head flight is the official air trip of the president, parliamentary leaders, the prime minister and other top officials. The flight roster can include delegations, technical staff, medical and security teams, journalists, and—when needed—family members, all governed by national regulations.

New Data Now Public

After Parliament lifted the secrecy clause in January 2024, the Prime Minister’s Office (KPRM) released the Central Register of Head flights. The data set includes every authorized trip since January 2024, allowing the press to catalogue who travelled with Poland’s top leaders.

Tusk’s 56 Head Trips

From January to 10 October 2024, Donald Tusk made 56 Head‑status journeys. The itineraries typically comprised at least two flights, such as Warsaw‑Brussels‑Warsaw, and covered domestic destinations—Rzeszów, Gdańsk, Wrocław—and key European capitals like Brussels, Paris, Washington, Prague, Budapest, London and Copenhagen.

Who Traveled With Tusk?

The passenger lists show that Tusk almost never flew alone. Frequent co‑travellers included state secretary Agnieszka Rucińska, Beata Turska (advisor in the prime minister’s office), Małgorzata Łatkiewicz‑Pawlak (head of Foreign Affairs in the Prime Minister’s Office), and Igor Ostachowicz, former state secretary and close adviser. The list also names Adam Szłapka, Paweł Graś (political cabinet chief), Maciej Obcowski (ministerial deputy), Agnieszka Bartol, and several parliamentary deputies.

Hołownia’s 22 Head Trips

Parliament Speaker Szymon Hołownia flew 22 Head‑status trips between January and 10 October 2024. Destinations included Gdańsk, Poznan, Kraków, Vilnius, Palma, Prague, Ankara and Bern. The most recent round involved a travel to Munich (October 2‑6), a layover in Frankfurt, and a visit to Washington via Germany, where Hołownia met UN Secretary‑General António Guterres.

Kidawa‑Błońska’s 17 Head Trips

Senate Speaker Małgorzata Kidawa‑Błońska logged 17 Head‑status travels, the lowest among the trio. Flights took her to Kraków, Brussels, Strasbourg, Prague, Bucharest and London, with her last trip in October to Ljubljana, where she met Slovenia’s president and finance minister.
