TV Republika requests payment extensions for its broadcast license fees while KRRiT reviews the possibility of initiating debt collection procedures.
Licensing Fee Dispute
TV Republika has paid for broadcasting its program until January 2026 and has also submitted a request to spread out the remaining license fees in installments. A KRRiT spokesperson, Anna Ostrowska, confirmed that the request is currently being analyzed by the National Council of Radio and Television’s lawyers. The 10-year license for TV Republika reportedly costs 17.85 million złoty, with payments to be made in installments of 1.85 million złoty each.
Partial Payment and Council Response
Professor Tadeusz Kowalski, a member of the National Council of Radio and Television, stated that a partial payment of the license fee installment was made on January 15th, but emphasized that this was not the full amount required. Kowalski has announced that he will vote against further spreading out the payments during the next KRRiT meeting. He suggests that if the full amount isn’t paid, the Council might initiate a debt collection procedure.
ABW Presence at TV Republika Facilities
During the previous May, the Internal Security Agency (ABW) entered a television studio that had previously been rented by TV Republika. At that time, TV Republika’s editor-in-chief Tomasz Sakiewicz announced increased security levels at the station following the ABW action. A spokesperson for the minister coordinating special services, Jacek Dobrzyński, emphasized that the ABW activities in the Warsaw district of Włochy had nothing to do with TV Republika’s past or present operations in that location, calling any accusations connecting the two an abuse and manipulation.
