TV Republika has registered a new association in Chełm, sparking speculation about a potential shift into politics while local authorities deny the existence of any formal rental agreements at the provided location.
Speculation on a New Political Party
TV Republika recently founded the Association of Friends of the Republic. Former PiS deputy Beata Mazurek remarked on social media that the organization’s expansion into media and foundations could be a precursor to forming a political party. She suggested this sequence of events would be logical.
Mazurek later clarified that she was not suggesting a move, but questioning the intent behind the registration. She noted that if TV Republika were to field its own election list, it could weaken the current right-wing coalition by failing to reach the electoral threshold.
Denials from Local Officials
The association was registered at an address belonging to the Municipal Sports and Recreation Center (MOSiR) in Chełm. Both the city administration and MOSiR officials have confirmed that no lease or usage agreements were ever signed with the organization.
Mazurek expressed concern over the conflicting information regarding the address, stating that someone is clearly being dishonest. She emphasized that as a resident of Chełm, the lack of transparency regarding the use of city facilities is a matter of public interest.
Sakiewicz Dismisses Political Ambitions
Tomasz Sakiewicz, president and editor-in-chief of TV Republika, dismissed claims of launching a political party as nonsense he has heard for decades. Regarding the controversial address, he claimed that lawyers handled the registration and that a contract is currently being processed.
When pressed by journalists to identify the counterpart in these alleged negotiations, given that city authorities denied any involvement, Sakiewicz provided no further clarification.
