The Law and Justice (PiS) party has formally expelled two Łódź city councilors, Radosław Marzec and Krzysztof Stasiak, following a disciplinary procedure initiated by party leadership and finalized by the internal collegiate court.
The Expulsion Process
MP Agnieszka Wojciechowska van Heukelom announced the decision on Tuesday, confirming that the party’s collegiate court, with the participation of disciplinary spokesperson Karol Karski, voted to strike both men from the membership list. The councilors are now barred from representing or speaking on behalf of PiS.
Wojciechowska van Heukelom described the move as a difficult decision, noting that it followed months of suspension. Radosław Marzec, despite his suspension, allegedly failed to take advantage of an opportunity to remain within the party ranks.
Dispute Over Award Candidacy
A primary point of contention was the handling of a nomination for the “Deserving for the City of Łódź” award. As chairman of the Awards and Decorations Committee, Marzec allegedly rejected a candidate supported by PiS, Tomasz Grzywaczewski, citing his appearances on Telewizja Republika.
While the MP claims this move cost the party the nomination, Marzec countered that the governing coalition of KO and the Left had intended to block the candidacy regardless of his actions, and he denied having any influence over the final voting outcome.
Marzec Challenges Decision
Marzec, a member of the party for 19 years, stated he intends to appeal the decision. He defended his record by pointing to his performance in the last local elections, where he secured the highest vote count among PiS candidates in Łódź.
The councilor declared that he remains a conservative and will continue his work as an independent, non-partisan representative, despite the party’s move to remove him.
Concerns Over Performance
The MP also criticized Krzysztof Stasiak, noting that the party had unsuccessfully demanded he step down from his role as vice-chairman of the City Council after losing party support. Stasiak continues to hold the position despite being removed from the PiS councilor club.
Wojciechowska van Heukelom also questioned the professional activity of the councilors. She stated that in her assessment, Marzec’s 106 interpellations over 12 years were insufficient, and noted that Stasiak had failed to submit a single interpellation throughout the current term.
