Two Men Detained After Fatal Crash in Łomianki Leaves Two Dead, One Critical

Polish police have detained two men in connection with a Sunday evening crash on the DK7 in Łomianki that resulted in two fatalities and one critical injury.

Police Investigation Following Fatal Collision

Warsaw police reported the detention of two men potentially linked to the deadly accident on DK7 in Łomianki. The incident occurred on Sunday, April 12th, before 6:00 PM on the overpass at the intersection of Kolejowa and Brukowa streets.

Police initiated intensive efforts to identify and apprehend the driver of a vehicle believed to be involved, after one car left the scene. Around 3:30 AM, officers located the vehicle and detained two men. The secured vehicle will undergo expert examination, with further investigation under the supervision of the prosecutor.

Details of the Multi-Vehicle Incident

Initial reports indicated the involvement of multiple vehicles in the crash. Two people traveling in a Toyota died at the scene: a 19-year-old woman and a 15-year-old boy. One person was transported to the hospital in critical condition, and other participants received medical assistance.

Witness Account Describes Reckless Driving

A witness reported that the driver of an Audi was driving aggressively and weaving between vehicles towards Warsaw. The Audi allegedly collided with the Toyota, which then struck a curb and barriers, crossing into the opposite lane and hitting another Audi and a BMW. The Toyota ultimately impacted the roadway roof-first.

Police confirmed that one vehicle fled the scene and that individuals potentially connected to the accident were detained, but did not initially disclose the information about the fleeing vehicle.

Emergency Response and Road Closure

Police, firefighters, and paramedics worked at the scene for several hours. Rescue operations and securing the crash site continued long after the incident. Simultaneously, police conducted investigations to determine the circumstances of the tragedy, which resulted in two deaths and serious injuries. The road was closed in both directions for several hours.

Police Statement on Investigation and Information Control

“Regarding yesterday’s road incident on the overpass in Łomianki, we are providing new findings. Police have been conducting intensive activities since yesterday evening to identify and detain the driver who may be connected to this tragic accident. Immediately after the incident, one of the vehicles left the scene. Around 3:30 AM, officers identified the vehicle and determined its location. Two men were detained during the operation. Police secured the car. Detailed inspections will be carried out by experts from the Forensic Laboratory of the Capital Police Headquarters.”

“Information about the escape of one of the drivers was not previously released to the public. This decision was dictated by the good of the ongoing operations – from the very beginning, officers were implementing intensive activities aimed at quickly identifying and detaining this person. Publicizing such information at this stage could have hindered the effective actions of the Police. The case is evolving. Further activities are being carried out under the supervision of the prosecutor” – informs the Capital Police Headquarters.
