Crime Scene: Highway 50 Construction
In the last week, police in Płońsk received two reports of battery theft from the construction site of road 50 near Nacpolsk, Masovian Voivodeship. Seven batteries were stolen from temporary traffic lights and warning signs, which were stored in metal boxes, some secured with chains and locks.
Who Were the Suspects?
Police identified two residents of the Naruszewo municipality: a 24‑year‑old and a 27‑year‑old. Both were arrested and accused of the thefts.
Alleged Motive: Alcohol Shortage
According to the suspects, the thefts followed a party where they drank alcohol. After running out of vodka and money, they decided to obtain funds by taking batteries from the construction site.
Financial Details of the Theft
One suspect stole three batteries at night and sold them for scrap. After spending the proceeds on alcohol, his friend returned to the site the next day and stole four more batteries, bypassing security measures.
Charges and Potential Sentences
The 27‑year‑old faces a charge of burglary with co‑conviction, while the 24‑year‑old will face two charges: theft and burglary. Both could be sentenced to up to ten years in prison.
