Two Road Collisions Cause Multi‑Kilometre Traffic Jams on Expressways

Two collisions on Poland’s S2 and S8 expressways near Warsaw on Thursday morning triggered multi‑kilometre traffic jams across major routes to the capital.

Collision on S2 near Konotopa

A passenger car and a delivery truck collided about one kilometre beyond the Konotop junction towards Opacz on the S2 highway. The incident was reported to the Capital Police Command at 6:10 a.m. and both vehicles remained on the lane, immediately causing significant traffic disruptions.

Impact on traffic to west of Warsaw

The collision led to severe congestion on the A2 motorway heading toward Warsaw, with traffic jams beginning near Grodzisk Mazowiecki. Additional flow problems also appeared on the S8 from the Bemów side, further compounding the bottleneck.

Collision on S8 at Potok residential area

Later that morning, a passenger car and a tractor‑trailer collided on the S8 near the Potok residential estate, heading toward the Konotop junction. During a lane change, the vehicles made contact, causing the car to flip perpendicular to the road and block passage.

Resulting congestion towards Konotop

The stalled vehicle on the S8 curtailed the route’s capacity, creating a large buildup on one of Warsaw’s main ingress corridors. Drivers coming from the Marek direction faced significant travel time increases and slowed traffic over a lengthy section.

Unconnected but simultaneous incidents

The two incidents were unrelated but occurred at roughly the same time on key expressways around Warsaw, cumulatively producing severe traffic disruptions.
