U.S. Rejects 45-Day Iran Truce; Tensions Escalate

U.S. President Donald Trump dismissed a proposed 45-day ceasefire in the conflict with Iran, raising tensions further, according to CNN sources.

Proposed Truce Rejected

A 45-day ceasefire plan, including the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz, was rejected by U.S. President Donald Trump, CNN reported Monday, citing a White House source.

The truce proposal was prepared by mediators and sent to the U.S. and Iran on Sunday evening.

White House Response

The White House source stated that Trump did not agree to the proposal, characterizing it as “one of many ideas.”

Iran’s Concerns

The proposal was also sent to Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi and U.S. envoy Steve Witkoff. Mediators hoped the 45-day ceasefire would allow for negotiations towards ending the conflict.

CNN reported that Iran appears to have also rejected the proposal, fearing a ceasefire would allow opponents to prepare for continued warfare.

Trump’s Ultimatum and Press Conference

Mediators are hoping the plan can be implemented before Trump’s ultimatum expires at 8 p.m. Tuesday (2 a.m. Wednesday in Poland). Trump has threatened to target Iran’s power plants and bridges if the Strait of Hormuz is not opened by then.

Trump is scheduled to hold a press conference at the White House on Monday at 1 p.m. (7 p.m. in Poland) regarding the conflict with Iran.

Mediation Efforts Stalled

Pakistan, Egypt, and Turkey are acting as mediators in the conflict, but peace talks stalled last week.
