U.S. Senators Question Trump’s Plan; One Calls It Russia’s “Wish List”

U.S. senators Mike Rounds, Jeanne Shaheen and Angus King reported that Secretary of State Marco Rubio described Trump’s peace proposal as a “wish list” for Russia—a claim Rubio denied on Sunday.

Senators Accuse Rubio Of Calling Plan a Russian Wish List

According to media reports, senators Mike Rounds, Jeanne Shaheen and Angus King asked Secretary of State Marco Rubio for a phone call. Their concern stemmed from the peace plan’s details and global leaders’ reactions.

Newsweek reports that, according to Republican Mike Rounds, Rubio allegedly said the document was a “wish list” for Russia and that it had only been provided to the American side.

Rounds cited the supposed words: “This is not our recommendation. This is not our plan.”

Marco Rubio Denies Rumors

Rubio refuted the allegations in a Sunday post. He said the peace proposal was “developed by the United States, forms a solid basis for ongoing negotiations, is based on Russian views, and also on Ukraine’s earlier and current opinions.”

The Associated Press described the senators’ statements as a “shocking lie.”

Trump Pressures Zelensky on Timeline

The Washington Post reports that Trump pressurized President Zelensky, giving him until Thursday to accept the peace plan. When reporters asked whether it was his own offer, Trump said it was not.

“I want peace. It should have happened long ago. We are trying to finish it. Either way, we must do it,” Trump said.
