Ukrainian officials announced a breakthrough in peace negotiations in Geneva, claiming a key agreement with U.S. counterparts, while Russian authorities noted the talks and remain monitoring.
Ukrainian Delegation Declares Success
“We appreciate the productive and constructive meetings in Geneva between the Ukrainian and American delegations and the steadfast efforts of President Trump to bring the war to an end,” wrote Rustem Umerow on social media.
“Our delegations reached an agreement on the key terms discussed in Geneva. We now look to the support of our European partners for further action,” he added. “We look forward to arranging the Ukrainian president’s visit to the United States at the earliest possible date in November, to finalize the last steps and conclude an agreement with President Trump.”
Russian Kremlin Acknowledges Changes
Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov stated that the Russia government is aware of changes introduced to the peace agreement. He said the Kremlin closely monitors media reports and analyses them carefully, noting that a previously unofficial text has already been corrected. Peskov added that official information is pending and no new details are available at present.
Secret US–Russia Negotiations Underway
The United States and Russia held a covert consultation on a peace plan in the capital of the United Arab Emirates, with Washington and Moscow delegations meeting during the night of Monday into Tuesday.
The White House delegation was led by Army Secretary Dan Driscoll, while the Kremlin delegation’s composition remains undisclosed. Early U.S. officials also met with Ukrainian intelligence chief Kyrylo Budanov at the same venue.
Kremlin Critiques European Peace Plan
Advisor Juri Uszakov reported that Moscow had reviewed a European variant of the peace plan and deemed it “unconstructive” and incompatible with Russian interests. He said the proposal would be amended by Russia, the United States, and Ukraine, and mentioned an upcoming meeting with U.S. representatives without providing further details.
