Ukraine signed a framework deal for Protector UGVs at World Defense Show 2026, formalizing domestic robotic defense systems.
Framework Agreement Details
The contract, announced in February 2026, was confirmed by Ukrainian Armor CEO Władysław Biełbas. It establishes conditions for future supplies of domestic robotic systems for the military, with vehicles warehouse-ready for immediate dispatch upon army orders.
Procurement will use digital platforms DOT-Chain and Brave1 Market, designed to streamline military equipment acquisition and boost national defense tech. Brave1, launched in 2023, enables frontline units to directly request platforms through established procedures.
Protector UGV Specifications
The Protector UGV weighs 3,000 kg max (curb weight 2.2 tons) and measures 5,200 mm long, 1,870 mm wide, 1,450 mm high. Its STANAG 4569 Level 1 armor resists small-arms fire and shrapnel. Powered by a 190 HP engine, it averages 12 liters of diesel per 100 km, with speeds up to 60-80 km/h and a 15 km control range.
Modular construction supports various communication, surveillance, and digital command systems integration used by Ukrainian forces.
Combat Capabilities
The platform adapts to multiple roles: fire support, reconnaissance, ammunition/supply transport, medical evacuation, and drone carrier. Combat configurations feature remote-controlled weapon modules with machine guns, automatic grenade launchers, or autocannons. Future potential includes anti-tank or short-range air defense systems.
Ukraine’s UGV Development
Post-2022, Ukraine accelerated UGV development to reduce personnel casualties. The Protector, debuted at MSPO 2024 and approved operationally in June 2025, uses an Isuzu Trooper chassis for rapid deployment. The agreement marks a step toward mass domestic defense production, shortening deployment timelines for combat units.
