Ukraine Offers Assistance as Poland Investigates Rail Line Explosion

Ukraine’s foreign minister offered solidarity and aid as Polish investigators probe an explosive sabotage on the Warsaw‑Lublin railway, which authorities say may be a hybrid attack linked to Russia.

Ukraine’s Response to Polish Rail Sabotage

Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andriy Syviyu expressed solidarity with Poland regarding acts of sabotage on the railway. He stated that the investigation should provide answers and that Ukraine is ready to help if called upon.

Syviyu warned that this could be another hybrid attack by Russia aimed at testing responses, and emphasized that if it is true, reactions must be decisive.

Railway Explosion. What Officials Say

On Monday, 17 November, Donald Tusk confirmed a sabotage act involving an explosive device on the Warsaw‑Lublin line at the village of Mika near Życzyna in Garwolin County.

Minister of State Administration Marcin Kierwiński reported a second potential attempt targeting about 60 meters of electric traction or installing a metal fence near Puławy. A passing train broke the fence, and the damaged traction struck a train carrying almost half a thousand passengers.

Investigation into Sabotage Acts

Later that day, prosecutors announced a criminal investigation into acts of sabotage of a terrorist nature directed against rail infrastructure for a foreign intelligence service. Waldemar Żurek highlighted that the offense carries a potential sentence of life imprisonment.

He said he has assembled a investigative team comprising CBŚP, ABW officers, and prosecutors from the Mazovian Local Office of the National Prosecutor’s Office.

Żurek warned that no one who commits sabotage against Polish society will escape responsibility.
