Ukraine’s Foreign Minister Warns NATO of Rising Threats from Belarus

Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andrij Sybiha met with NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte in Sweden on May 21 to discuss front-line developments, intensified pressure on Moscow, and regional security concerns.

Strategic Dialogue in Sweden

Andrij Sybiha met with Mark Rutte during a ministerial NATO gathering in Helsingborg. The Ukrainian Foreign Minister briefed the NATO Secretary General on the ongoing situation at the front and the effectiveness of Ukrainian strikes deep within Russian territory.

Defense and Diplomatic Strategy

A primary focus of the discussion was the expansion of the PURL (Priority Ukraine Requirement List) initiative, which facilitates the sale of American weaponry to NATO allies for the defense of Ukraine. Sybiha emphasized that diplomatic progress remains contingent on maintaining significant pressure on Moscow, specifically rejecting any potential easing of international sanctions.

Joint Russian and Belarusian Nuclear Exercises

Russia and Belarus have conducted joint nuclear force maneuvers, testing their readiness to deploy atomic warheads. These drills involved the launch of Yars intercontinental ballistic missiles alongside Zircon and Kinzhal hypersonic weapons, focusing on the joint preparation and use of nuclear arms stationed on Belarusian territory.

Diplomatic and Economic Engagement

Beyond his meeting with NATO leadership, Sybiha held talks with the foreign ministers of Sweden, Bulgaria, and the Netherlands. He also engaged with Swedish business leaders, meeting with 15 top-level executives and owners representing approximately 20 major enterprises across various sectors of the Swedish economy.
