Ukraine’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA) recently commented on Polish President Karol Nawrocki’s statements regarding Ukraine’s potential NATO and EU membership, stating that the future of Ukraine’s security is irrevocably tied to NATO and its political and economic future is connected to the European Union. The MFA further noted that members of the coalition recently agreed that Ukraine’s EU membership is one of the guarantees of its security.

In a statement, the Ukrainian MFA emphasized that Ukraine’s NATO and EU membership lies not only in the country’s interest but also in the interest of the broader Europe and the Euro-Atlantic community. The ministry rejected the assertion that the discussion on this matter is premature, stating that it is in fact strategically necessary in the context of ongoing Russian aggression against Ukraine and the entire European security system.

Polish President’s Opposition to Ukraine’s NATO Membership

Polish President Karol Nawrocki voiced his opposition to Ukraine’s NATO membership in an interview with Lithuania’s public broadcaster LRT on Monday, asserting that the discussion around Ukraine’s accession to NATO is premature. “I believe that a country at war can join NATO because it would mean that Poland and Lithuania are also at war,” said President Nawrocki.
