The ambassador noted an increase in hostile rhetoric towards Ukrainians in the media and various aspects of life, not just related to the historical aspects of their shared, sometimes tragic history.

Teaching of Ukrainian Language in Poland

Yermak pointed out the current wave of misinformation and manipulative comments, both from anonymous sources and well-known Polish politicians, regarding the teaching of Ukrainian as a second foreign language in Polish schools.

Ukrainians’ Contribution to Polish Economy

Citizens of Ukraine in Poland are a lawful part of Polish society, contributing to the economy through work, taxes, and the creation of additional job opportunities, adding significant value to Poland’s GDP. Ukrainians paid 15.1 billion złoty into the Polish treasury in 2024, while receiving approximately 2.8 billion złoty under the “Family 800plus” program.

Importance of Ukrainian Language Education

The ambassador made a plea for civilians to have the right to education in the Ukrainian language, urging that the language not be placed in a less favorable situation than other foreign languages. He emphasized the importance of the Ukrainian language, which belongs to a significant portion of the Polish society, strengthening the European values shared by all.
