A Toyota Avensis SUV entered the Hungarian side of the Velyka Palad checkpoint without stopping, driving through the border barriers at high speed. The act left the vehicle beyond the Hungarian territory, while a border guard on duty sustained injuries and was transported to a hospital. Border officials confirmed that the driver illegally crossed the Ukrainian‑Hungarian frontier and have opened an investigation.

Telegram video posted by journalist Witalij Hłahola shows the incident. He noted that in just six seconds the driver entered the Schengen area without visas or formalities. Identification work revealed the driver as a 38‑year‑old lawyer from Velyka Bakta in Berehove, who had been serving in the Ukrainian Armed Forces since June of that year. The medium’s correspondent cited border‑guard reports that this is not the first time the Vyrykom border station has faced a similar escape attempt under the command of Oleksandr Osipets.
Broader context: Russian night attack on Sumy
In a separate report, Ukrainian authorities said that a nighttime Russian aerial strike in Sumy killed 15 people, including four children. Russian drones hit civilian infrastructure, striking high‑rise residential buildings, a gas station, a train station and a dormitory. The General Staff of the Ukrainian Armed Forces reported that in the past 24 hours the Russian Army launched three large artillery barrages and 88 airstrikes, using 66 munitions and dropping 168 guided bombs on Ukrainian territory. Ukrainian air, missile and artillery units returned fire on seven Russian military targets, targeting personnel stations and arms depots.
