During a visit to Sweden, a Ukrainian envoy declared the country’s firm red lines for any peace plan, insisting on constitutional protection, security guarantees and unfettered armed forces.
Kyiv’s Firm Position on Peace Terms
A Ukrainian representative visiting Sweden stressed that Kyiv’s position on a potential peace plan is well-defined and non-negotiable. The envoy said no agreement can violate Ukraine’s constitution, undermine Ukrainian interests or legitimize Russian occupation.
Constitutional Principles and Occupation Concerns
The spokeswoman highlighted that any proposed plan must uphold international law, safeguard Ukraine’s sovereignty and prevent future aggression. She warned against measures that could be interpreted as legitimizing current occupation forces.
Security Guarantees and International Alliances
Ukrainian Parliament Speaker Ruslan Stefańczuk warned that membership in NATO and the EU must form part of any security guarantees. He emphasized that these alliances are vital to Ukraine’s future stability.
Red Lines for Armed Forces and Future Alliances
Stefańczuk outlined Ukraine’s red lines, including no restrictions on its armed forces’ capabilities and any future alliances. These conditions are required to ensure Ukraine can defend itself effectively.
