Unemployment Benefit Rates Rise to 2140 PLN Starting June 1

Starting June 1, 2026, Poland will increase unemployment benefits following an annual indexation, with the maximum monthly payment reaching 2140.68 PLN gross for eligible individuals with at least 20 years of service.

Eligibility and Contribution Requirements

The right to receive unemployment benefits is reserved for individuals officially registered at a labor office. Mere termination of employment is insufficient; claimants must prove at least 365 days of work within the preceding 18 months, with earnings at least equal to the minimum wage, which stands at 4806 PLN gross for 2026.

Qualifying periods include labor contracts, specific civil law agreements, and self-employment, provided the required contributions to the Labor Fund were paid.

Benefit Rates and Calculation

The new benefit rates take effect on June 1, 2026. For those with less than 20 years of service, the benefit is 1783.90 PLN gross for the first 90 days and 1400.90 PLN subsequently. Individuals with at least 20 years of service receive 2140.68 PLN gross initially, followed by 1681.08 PLN. This represents a monthly increase of 48.70 PLN to 74.28 PLN.

Duration and Payment Conditions

Benefits are typically paid for 180 days, though specific groups—including those over 50 with 20 years of service, single parents, large families, and certain individuals with disabilities—may qualify for up to 12 months. Payments may be deferred by up to 90 days if the individual resigned from their previous job.

Status as an unemployed person includes state-funded health insurance, which may also cover family members. Benefits do not accrue extra employee rights like vacation time, but the period counts toward pension contributions.

Additional Support Programs

An activation bonus of 892 PLN per month is available to those who find work while receiving benefits. Additionally, a settlement grant of up to 18,395.60 PLN is available for those relocating for employment, provided they meet specific distance and salary criteria and remain employed for at least 180 days.
