Unexploded Device Near Warsaw Bridge Causes Major Disruptions

Severe traffic disruptions in Warsaw are linked to the renovation of the Poniatowski Bridge, while an unearthed World War II explosive was discovered near another bridge.

Unexploded Device Found Near Gdański Bridge

On Monday, August 18 during earthworks near the intersection of Słomińskiego and Międzyparkowa, close to Gdański Bridge, workers uncovered a WWII-era unexploded device. The area was secured and explosives specialists were called to the site.

Traffic Disruptions in Warsaw

Significant congestion has affected the Gdański Bridge area, disrupting bus lines 178, 500, 503, and Z‑5 that travel along Słomińskiego/Międzyparkowa. These buses were rerouted. Train services were also limited on the Warsaw Gdańska–Warszawa Praga stretch, with reduced operating speeds.

Renovation of the Poniatowski Bridge Initiates New Stage

The ongoing restoration of the historic Poniatowski Bridge continues to cause disruptions. Since Monday, the lane heading toward Praga has been narrowed and the right lane from the Polish Army Museum building to Wisłostrada has been closed. The Warsaw City Roads Authority announced that the next phase will replace expansion joints, to be completed by the end of summer.
