Trump says he will decide on military action against Iran within 10-15 days as the “gang of eight” prepares for White House briefing.
Trump’s Military Decision Timeline
On Thursday, February 19, Donald Trump said that within 10-15 days he would decide on possible military actions against Iran. The next day he conveyed that he does not rule out an attack. Media reported unofficially that Americans have already made a decision and may attack Iran in the coming days.
Rubio to Brief “Gang of Eight” on Iran
Media: Marco Rubio to provide “gang of eight” with information on Iran. On Wednesday, a meeting regarding Iran is scheduled to take place at the White House. “Tomorrow afternoon at the White House, Secretary of State Marco Rubio will present information on Iran to the ‘gang of eight.’ A State Department official told me about this,” wrote NewsNation White House correspondent Libbey Dean on X on Tuesday.
What is the “Gang of Eight”?
“Gang of eight” is the term for a group of politicians who receive from the federal government information regarding the most important matters related to national security. The “gang of eight” consists of leaders of the Republican and Democratic parties in the Senate and the House of Representatives, as well as members of the intelligence committee operating in Congress.
Democrats Criticize Lack of Information
Democrats claim that the Trump administration has not informed them why the US is increasing its military presence near Iran. Member of the House Foreign Affairs Committee Gregory Meeks said that if the United States plans to attack Iran, the “gang of eight” should know what kind of operation it will be.
“When you see them deploying all the transport planes and aircraft, you don’t know if it will be a small or large attack, if people will be on the ground, or if it will be a regime change,” Meeks said on Sunday in an interview with MS NOW. The Democrat criticized the US president’s administration for the fact that in negotiations with Iran, basically only two people are involved – US special envoy Steve Witkoff and Trump’s son-in-law Jared Kushner.
