The State Fund for Rehabilitation of Disabled Persons (PFRON) is offering subsidies of up to 144,782 PLN in 2026 to cover 95% of the costs for essential home accessibility renovations.
Financial Support for Barrier-Free Living
In 2026, homeowners can apply for significant financial aid from PFRON to eliminate architectural barriers. This program specifically targets improvements that increase accessibility for people with disabilities, covering up to 95% of eligible project costs.
Eligible Modifications vs. Cosmetic Upgrades
Funding is strictly reserved for projects that improve functionality and living conditions, rather than general interior design. Supported works include bathroom accessibility, installing ramps, and widening doors, whereas cosmetic changes like decorative painting or tile replacement are excluded.
Determining the Subsidy Limit
The maximum funding amount is calculated as 15 times the average national salary. Based on the latest data, this cap stands at 144,782.85 PLN. While many grants are smaller, the fund remains a primary source for major accessibility investments.
Navigating the Application Process
Subsidies are managed by local units rather than the PFRON headquarters. Applicants must meet specific criteria and, if renting, obtain the owner’s consent. Crucially, applicants must submit their request before commencing any work, as starting renovations early leads to automatic rejection.
