Ursula von der Leyen Sets Conditions for Ukraine Peace

On X, the European Commission president announced three EU conditions for a fair, lasting peace in Ukraine, demanding unchanged borders, no force reductions, and recognition of the EU’s role—2025‑02‑28.

Three Conditions from the EU

Ursula von der Leyen said the EU requires that border changes cannot be effected by force, that Ukraine must not reduce its armed forces—otherwise it risks future attacks—and that the EU’s pivotal role in securing Ukraine’s peace must be acknowledged.

She also stressed that any peace plan must guarantee the return of children kidnapped from occupied regions and relocated deep into Russia for forced re‑Russification.

Geneva Talks Resume

Ukraine’s delegation, led by presidential office chief Andriy Yermak, met on Sunday with national security advisers from the United Kingdom, France and Germany to work on a U.S. draft peace document.

Yermak said the team had begun finalising the plan and would soon schedule a follow‑up meeting with U.S. representatives, expressing optimism about a constructive path to durability and justice.

European Leaders Demand Post‑War Negotiations

European heads of state insist that talks with Russia on any territorial changes must wait until the war along the current front line ends, rejecting Moscow’s demand that Kyiv hand back occupied eastern lands.

They also call for frozen Russian assets to be employed as compensation and reconstruction funds for Ukraine.

U.S. Peace Plan Drafted with Russian Input

In Geneva, U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio and special envoy Steve Witkoff are discussing a U.S. peace proposal for Ukraine that was crafted after consultations with Moscow.

This plan reflects the U.S. willingness to engage Russia in shaping terms for a lasting settlement.
