US Ambassador Attacks Czarzasty, Left Party Accuses PiS of Undermining Polish Sovereignty

Polish Left party defends Czarzasty against US Ambassador, accusing PiS of undermining Poland’s sovereignty in transatlantic relations.

Controversy with US Ambassador. “Czarzasty Behaved Like a Statesman”

On Friday (February 6), a press conference was held by Left party ministers regarding the US Ambassador’s statement. “Left in Poland has always been and will be for good transatlantic relations between Warsaw and Washington,” said Krzysztof Gawkowski. “Relations that should build a constant and strong alliance within NATO, build good economic cooperation.”

But “cooperation is not dictatorship, it’s not any words or gestures that would undermine the sovereignty of the state,” he emphasized. “Today we stand firmly with Marshal Włodzimierz Czarzasty, who behaved like a statesman, pointing out that the Polish Parliament will not support President Trump’s aspirations for the Nobel Prize. This is nothing unusual, as this is the opinion of most Poles and Polish women,” added the minister of digital affairs.

Vice Premier Attacks PiS. “Where Are the Words You Carried on Your Banners?”

“I look with disbelief at what PiS politicians are doing, the environment of the president and the president himself. Accusations, inciting hatred, building a discourse of hatred. I would like to ask where are the words you carried on your banners during the campaign: ‘First Poland, first Poles’,” said Krzysztof Gawkowski. “Today, the Left stands in defense of these values. This is in our hearts, but it is also in our decisions.”

“If Mr. Kaczyński really believes that Poland is the most important thing, that Polish matters are the most important, then he should discipline Mr. President Nawrocki, and Mr. President Nawrocki should be the first to stand in line with those who defend the second person in the state, Marshal Włodzimierz Czarzasty,” he said.

“I Accuse”. Gawkowski Sharply to PiS Politicians

“It should be like this because we may differ on programs, we may differ on stories, we may have different ideologies, but the most important people in the state – hand in hand – should all stand together and have a common position in such matters. Undermining this position is an attack on Polish sovereignty and I accuse PiS politicians today of undermining the sovereignty of the Republic of Poland,” Gawkowski emphasized. “Wake up, cool your emotions. Be Poles,” he added.
