Polish politician Grzegorz Braun’s condolence visit to the Iranian embassy drew sharp criticism from the US ambassador.
Braun’s Visit to Iranian Embassy
On Friday, March 8, Grzegorz Braun visited the Iranian embassy in Warsaw to sign a condolence book for the death of Ali Khamenei. In his entry, he expressed sympathy for the Iranian people and criticized US and Israeli attacks on Iran. Ambassador Tom Rose of the USA responded to Braun’s post.
Ambassador Rose’s Reaction
“America and President Donald Trump will not forget who is our friend; more importantly, who is not,” Rose wrote on Sunday on his personal X account. The diplomat also drew attention to a recording shared by the Confederation of the Polish Crown, which showed Braun’s visit to the Iranian embassy. In the video, embassy representatives greet and escort Braun into the building where banners display images of Ali Khamenei. “How disgusting,” commented the US Ambassador to Poland.
Braun’s Political Stance
MEP Grzegorz Braun advocates for closer relations with Iran, citing the current geopolitical situation in the Middle East. “Independence of states, sovereignty and security of free nations should be dear to all, also to us, Poles – and in that spirit I raise the slogan: Tehran-Warsaw – a common cause!” wrote Braun. The politician does not hide his antipathy towards Israel, evidenced by an incident in December 2023 when Braun extinguished Hanukkah candles in the Sejm with a fire extinguisher, for which he was punished by the Sejm Presidium.
