US Ambassador Sparks Wave of Criticism Among Poles

US Ambassador Tom Rose cut ties with Polish Sejm Marshal Włodzimierz Czarzasty over critical remarks about President Trump, triggering divided public opinion.

Poll Results on Ambassador’s Decision

A survey by SW Research conducted on February 11 through online interviews in the SW Panel among 823 people found that most participants critically approach the decision of the US ambassador to break off contacts with Sejm Marshal Włodzimierz Czarzasty. 44.7% of respondents evaluated Tom Rose’s decision negatively, while 23.5% assessed it positively. Nearly 32% of people had no opinion on the matter.

Ambassador’s Statement

On Thursday, February 5, the US Ambassador to Poland, Tom Rose, announced he was breaking off all contact with the Polish parliament’s chairman in response to remarks about US President Donald Trump and efforts to award him the Nobel Peace Prize. “We will no longer maintain contact or communicate with Sejm Marshal Czarzasty, whose outrageous and unjustified insults against President Trump have become a serious obstacle to our excellent relations with Prime Minister Tusk and his government. We will not allow anyone to harm Polish-American relations or show disrespect to Donald Trump, who has done so much for Poland and the Polish nation,” Rose wrote.

Czarzasty’s Position on Nobel Nomination

Sejm Marshal Włodzimierz Czarzasty stated he would not support the Nobel Peace Prize nomination for President Trump. “Building new platforms such as the Peace Council is illusory in my view. We must strengthen the European Union, NATO, the UN, WHO, and ourselves. That’s where our security lies. In my opinion, President Trump is destabilizing these organizations, representing a policy of force and pursuing transactional policy using force. That’s why I won’t support the Nobel nomination for President Trump, because he doesn’t deserve it,” Czarzasty declared. In an official letter sent to the USA and Israel, Polish officials wrote about “recognition of all actions by the US President aimed at limiting armed conflicts and saving human lives.” However, “after a thorough analysis of the initiative presented and the accompanying arguments, the Sejm Marshal decided not to give his support to the indicated nomination.”
