US Delegation Arrives in Islamabad
A US delegation, including Vice President J.D. Vance, special envoy Steve Witkoff, and Jared Kushner, President Trump’s son-in-law, arrived in Islamabad Saturday morning to participate in peace talks with Iran, according to Reuters citing local sources.
Iranian Delegation Already in Pakistan
The Iranian delegation, comprised of high-ranking political, military, and economic officials, arrived in Pakistan Friday evening. Key members include Foreign Minister Abbas Aragczi, the Secretary of the Defense Council, the central bank president, and several members of parliament, including its speaker Mohammad Bager Ghalibaf.
Ceasefire Paves Way for Negotiations
The Pakistan-mediated peace talks are a result of both countries agreeing to a two-week ceasefire, effective from Tuesday night to Saturday.
Negotiation Format Expected to Mirror Past Talks
The negotiation format has not been officially confirmed, but media reports suggest it will resemble previous talks regarding Iran’s nuclear program. The US and Iranian delegations are not expected to engage in direct conversation, but rather through intermediaries.
