US Sends Third Aircraft Carrier to Middle East

The USS George H.W. Bush has departed Virginia, joining two other US aircraft carriers in the Middle East amid heightened tensions.

Three US Aircraft Carriers in the Region

The USS George H.W. Bush, a Nimitz-class aircraft carrier, set sail from Norfolk, Virginia on Tuesday, according to the US Navy. The vessel is expected to join the USS Abraham Lincoln and USS Gerald R. Ford in the Middle East.

Officials estimate it will take several weeks for the USS George H.W. Bush to reach the region, at which point the United States will have three aircraft carriers deployed simultaneously.

Current Deployments

The USS Abraham Lincoln is currently located in the Arabian Sea. The USS Gerald R. Ford, which participated in US-Israeli operations against Iran, is undergoing repairs in a Croatian port.

Additional Military Assets Arrive

On Saturday, US Central Command announced the arrival of the USS Tripoli, a landing ship, in the Middle East. Transport and fighter aircraft, as well as landing and tactical resources, are also prepared for deployment.

Trump Discusses Talks with Tehran

Amidst the increased military presence, diplomatic statements are being made. On Monday, Donald Trump wrote on Truth Social that the US is engaged in “serious talks” with a “new and more reasonable regime” in Tehran regarding ending hostilities.

Trump later stated that Americans are in communication with the Chairman of the Iranian Parliament, Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf, and a determination will be made within a week regarding his willingness to cooperate with the United States.

Iranian Response and Potential for Conflict

Ghalibaf previously declared that Iranian forces are prepared to “ignite” any American soldiers who land in Iran, alleging US plans for a ground operation despite public statements about seeking an end to the war. Pete Hegseth, a former US Secretary of Defense (Trump administration), did not rule out a ground operation on Wednesday, stating, “We are not closing off any options.”
