US Treasury Temporarily Removes Sanctions on Russia

The U.S. Treasury has temporarily lifted sanctions on certain Russian transactions in preparation for Donald Trump’s meeting with Vladimir Putin.

USA Temporarily Abolishes Sanctions Against Russia

On Wednesday, August 13, the U.S. Treasury Department announced that it had temporarily lifted sanctions on certain Russian transactions in anticipation of a Thursday meeting between Donald Trump and Vladimir Putin in Alaska. A special license allows the Russian government to make U.S. payments related to the summit. U.S. firms and other entities may receive these funds despite existing restrictions. The license expires on August 20. According to media, Trump informed Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky that his goal in talks with Putin is to achieve a ceasefire and start work on a peace treaty. He also said that after the meeting with Putin he would contact Zelensky, and if progress is made, he would organize another round of negotiations involving Zelensky. Gen. Polko: I Do Not Expect Anything Good After This Meeting

So far, repeated talks among leaders have yielded no concrete agreements on Ukraine. These are not negotiations; they are a compromise involving Donald Trump and Steve Wykoff, the special envoy of the U.S. President. We have heard multiple times that “Trump will understand.” He understood nothing and continues to participate in the parlor of powers, where Ukraine essentially does not matter to him; he is essentially negotiating its surrender, because Russia has not made any gesture showing it wants to end the war. There was no agreement even to call out a ceasefire. All of this is part of Vladimir Putin’s game, showing that U.S. diplomacy, unlike its predecessors, completely does not understand, or pretends not to understand Russia, said Gen. Roman Polko in an interview with Gazeta.pl. He added that he does not expect anything good from this meeting.
