VETERAN PROTESTS US WAR WITH IRAN AT CAPITOL HEARING

Marine Corps veteran removed from Senate Armed Services Committee after protesting against potential US war with Iran.

Incident Details

During a Senate Armed Services Committee subcommittee hearing, Brian McGinnis, a 44-year-old North Carolina resident and Marine Corps veteran who is also a Green Party candidate for the Senate, shouted slogans opposing a US war with Iran. When Capitol Police attempted to remove him from the room, he resisted.

Republican Senator Tim Sheehy intervened to assist police during the confrontation. Footage of the incident posted on X shows police and Senator Sheehy removing the protester from the hearing room.

Aftermath and Injuries

During the removal process, the veteran’s hand struck a door frame, prompting shouts from the room including “Break his hand!” McGinnis was ultimately arrested and charged. Three Capitol Police officers were also injured in the incident and required medical assistance.

The suspect received medical attention as well. In a post on X, McGinnis explained his presence in Washington as a protest against Senate actions, questioning why elected representatives were sending Americans to war despite prior assurances against a world war.

Capitol Police Statement

A Capitol Police statement clarified that protests are not permitted inside the Congress building. The statement emphasized that while demonstrations are prohibited inside, there are numerous designated areas outside the Capitol where protests are allowed.

War Casualties

The article references significant casualties in the ongoing conflict with Iran, noting that in the first hour of the war, over 100 girls aged 7-12 were killed in a single bombing at a girls’ elementary school in Minab, near the Persian Gulf coast. This is contrasted with previous conflicts where, despite daily casualties in Gaza, such a precise targeting was not previously recorded.
