On November 25, leaders of the volunteer coalition announced a new joint task force, led by France and the UK with US and Turkish participation, to define security guarantees for Ukraine.
New Joint Task Force Launched
The virtual meeting of the volunteer coalition ran on Tuesday, November 25. According to Politico, one participant—Emmanuel Macron—declared the creation of a new joint task force headed by France and the United Kingdom, with the United States and Turkey involved.
Commitment to Security Guarantees
The task force will work on finalizing the details of security guarantees in the form of military support for Ukraine, to be granted only after an agreement between Kyiv and Moscow ensures lasting peace.
Macron said: “In the coming days we can precisely finalize each country’s contribution and present final security guarantees.”
Prime Minister Keir Starmer added that “multinational forces” will play a “key role” in ensuring Ukraine’s security.
US Involvement Signals Support
United States Secretary of State Marco Rubio participated in the meeting. The White House announcement noted leaders agreed to accelerate work with US participation to streamline security‑guarantee planning.
He said: “Marco Rubio’s presence is a positive signal of US support.”
Analyst Cautions on Reliability
Ed Arnold of the Royal United Services Institute warned that if US guarantees are not firmly secured, the volunteer coalition could find itself in a “very dangerous situation,” with forces deployed on an insecure foundation that is widely known to be unreliable.
Poland’s Potential Deployment
Poland’s involvement remains uncertain; the article ends with the question: “Will Poland send troops to Ukraine?”
