War Escapes Control; Bodies Seen in Satellite Images

Satellite images reveal mass killings in El Fasher, Sudan, amid the RSF‑led siege that has driven tens of thousands from the city.

Massacres Visible from Space

Satellite image analysis by Yale’s Humanitarian Research Lab shows 31 clusters of human bodies scattered across El Fasher, including residential areas, university grounds and near a military base. Reporters noted clear indicators of ongoing mass killings.

Additional photos from Vantor display burned vehicles, damaged buildings, and crowds gathered around a children’s hospital complex.

RSF Seizes El Fasher After 18‑Month Siege

The Rapid Support Forces (RSF), originating from the notorious Janjaweed militias, captured El Fasher following an 18‑month siege, displacing the regular army from its last Darfur stronghold.

Witnesses cited by AFP described mass executions, rapes, looting, and abductions, with escapees reporting children being shot in front of parents and men disappearing after capture.

The UN estimates over 65,000 people fled the city, yet tens of thousands remain detained without food, medicine, or communication; the city previously housed about 260,000 residents.

Global Responds to Sudan Conflict

UN Secretary‑General Antonio Guterres warned that the war in Sudan has “escaped control” and urged an immediate ceasefire.

German minister Johann Wadephul called the situation “apocalyptic,” and British foreign‑minister Yvette Cooper described reports of crimes as “truly horrific.”

The International Criminal Court is gathering evidence of mass executions and rapes in El Fasher, while RSF’s consolidation of Darfur threatens a potential east–west division of Sudan.
