Warsaw Court Strikes Down Mentzen’s New Hope Party

On 21 November, Warsaw’s District Court deregistered New Hope, chaired by Slavimir Mentzen, after the Polish Election Commission found the party failed to file its 2024 financial report.

Courts Decision

The Warsaw District Court decided to remove New Hope from the register of political parties, following a request by the Polish Election Commission. The court noted that the party had not submitted the required 2024 financial statement, violating constitutional rules that mandate financial transparency for political parties. The court found no doubt that New Hope had failed to comply with the obligation to file the report. No response was received from the party to the Commission’s request for deregistration, further supporting the court’s judgment.

Party Response

New Hope secretary Bartosz Bocheńczak declared the court’s ruling void and announced that the party would appeal. Conformist MP Bartłomiej Pejo also pledged an appeal, insisting that the financial report had been filed on time and that the issue lay in the Election Commission’s interpretation of the rules.

Other Parties Removed

Alongside New Hope, the court de‑registered six other parties that allegedly failed to file required annual financial statements. The parties were: Organizacja Narodu Polskiego – Liga Polska, Porozumienie Samorządowe, OK Polska, Konfederacja Odnowy Rzeczypospolitej, Wolność i Niepodległość, and Zdrowa Polska.
