Warsaw: Falenica Rail Crossing Closure Begins March 23rd

Railway work on the Otwock line in Warsaw begins Monday, March 23rd, closing the Falenica crossing to vehicles and altering bus routes.

Rail Line Modernization Underway

PKP PLK is modernizing the Otwock line, aiming to improve train access from Otwock to central Warsaw within two years. The project’s first phase involves closing the rail crossing in Falenica on Monday, March 23rd, with drivers directed to detour routes.

A partial closure of the intersection of Patriotów and Młodej streets in February will reopen overnight from Sunday to Monday, March 22nd to 23rd.

Crossing Closure and Street Restrictions

Starting around 9:00 AM on Monday, March 23rd, the rail crossing near Warszawa Falenica station will be closed. Drivers will be directed via Patriotów, Młodej, Bysławskiej, and Walcowniczej streets to the Warsaw South Ring Road junction.

The connection between Bystrzycka and Walcownicza streets, near the market, will also be closed. Alternative routes include Ochocza and Patriotów streets, or Trocinowa and Filmowa streets. These restrictions will last until early April, with work then shifting to the opposite side of the intersection.

Pedestrian Access Changes

Despite the road closure, pedestrians will initially still be able to cross the tracks. However, pedestrian access on Walcownicza street will be limited to one side.

One of the pedestrian crossings on Walcownicza street at Bystrzycka will be closed, requiring pedestrians to use Trocinowa street and walk along the market to reach Walcownicza.

Bus Route Diversions

Bus lines 115, 142, 161, 213, and night buses N22 and N72 will have altered routes starting Monday, March 23rd.

Train Service Interruption

Trains on the Warsaw Fast Urban Railway (SKM) and Mazovian Railways will not operate between Wawer and Otwock stations from April 12th to 26th. Bus replacements will be provided during this two-week period.

From April 27th, train service will resume with one SKM and two KM trains per hour during peak hours between Wawer and Otwock. Other trains will only run from Warsaw Wschodnia to Wawer station. Line ZS7 will be discontinued, while line 521 will continue to operate from PKP Falenica to Rondo Wiatraczna.
