Fire Breaks Out at Vacant Building
On Thursday, April 16th, at 6:38 PM, a fire erupted at a vacant building located at 19 Waldorffa Street in the Bemowo district.
The fire consumed an abandoned, single-story building measuring approximately 35 by 20 meters. Witnesses reported that three individuals experiencing homelessness evacuated the building before the arrival of emergency services.
No injuries were reported.
Flammable Materials Fuel the Blaze
The building contained a significant amount of flammable materials, primarily garbage, which contributed to the rapid spread of the fire and complicated firefighting efforts.
Firefighting Operations and Partial Collapse
Upon arrival, firefighters deployed three water jets. During the operation, a portion of the roof structure collapsed, increasing the risk to rescuers and necessitating cautious operations inside and around the building.
The fire was contained at 7:20 PM.
Ongoing Operations and Investigation
Five fire crews, including a city operational group, are currently on scene, with a total of 22 firefighters involved. Efforts are focused on extinguishing remaining embers and sifting through the debris.
The cause of the fire will be investigated once firefighting operations are complete.
