Warsaw Fire: Smoke Visible Across City

A fire broke out Wednesday on the facade of a building under construction in Warsaw’s Białołęka district, with smoke visible citywide.

Fire Breaks Out in Białołęka

A fire erupted on Wednesday at the facade of a new building on Portowa Street in Warsaw’s Białołęka district. Smoke plumes were visible even from the city center.

One person – a crane operator – was taken to the hospital. Firefighters are currently working to extinguish the remaining flames.

Fire Service Response

Nine fire crews were dispatched to the scene, according to junior captain Karolina Jaworska, press officer for the Mazovian Provincial Commander of the State Fire Service.

Situation Update and Evacuations

By 3:00 PM, fire officials reported that the source of the fire had been located, and extinguishing and search operations were underway.

Twenty construction workers evacuated the building, and two people were also evacuated from a neighboring building. The crane operator, trapped in the cabin, was rescued and transported to the hospital.
