The 20th Warsaw Half Marathon and 5k race will take place on Sunday, March 22nd, impacting traffic and public transport across the city.
Road Closures During the Races
Several streets will be closed to traffic during the races, including sections of Wisłostrada, and the Poniatowskiego, Świętokrzyski, and Gdański bridges towards Prague. Streets will close before the start of each race and reopen after the last runner passes and the route is cleared.
Yellow information boards are already in place along the routes and detours, displaying closure times for individual streets. Pedestrians will only be allowed to cross the race routes at designated points and times indicated by police or event staff.
New 5k Race Route
This year’s New Balance 5k race will feature a new route. Participants will start in two waves at 9:00 and 9:15 AM from Wał Miedzeszyński near Poniatowskiego Bridge, running towards Zwycięzców Street. They will then turn back and return to Świętokrzyski Bridge, cross the Vistula River, and turn again.
The route continues along Zamoście, Sokola, and Zamoyskiego streets to the finish line on the PGE Narodowy stadium grounds. The 5k race has a 45-minute completion time limit.
Warsaw Half Marathon Route
The 20th Warsaw Half Marathon will begin in several waves between 11:00 AM and 12:00 PM on Poniatowskiego Bridge. The route will follow Aleje Jerozolimskie, Rondo de Gaulle’a, Nowy Świat, Krakowskie Przedmieście, Miodowa, Plac Krasińskich, Bonifraterska, Muranowska, Andersa, Mickiewicza, Rondo Rudzka, Lektykarska, Podleśna, Gwiaździsta, Wybrzeże Gdyńskie, Wenedów, Zakroczymska, Konwiktorska, Bonifraterska, Międzyparkowa, Słomińskiego, Most Gdański, Wybrzeże Helskie, Wybrzeże Szczecińskie, Zamoście, Sokola, Zamoyskiego, and finally to the PGE Narodowy stadium grounds.
Participants have a maximum of three and a half hours to complete the 21.0975 km course.
Additional Road Closures and Restrictions
Additional closures will be implemented after midnight on Sunday, March 22nd, including Wał Miedzeszyński and Wybrzeże Szczecińskie towards Prague. From Wawer, the detour will follow Trasa Łazienkowska to Wisłostrada. Access to Zwycięzców Street will be maintained for residents of Saska Kępa.
Aleja and Poniatowskiego Bridge will close at 5:00 AM, along with Aleje Jerozolimskie from Rondo Waszyngtona towards Rondo de Gaulle’a. Tram services will be suspended between Plac Starynkiewicza and Rondo Waszyngtona.
Public Transport Changes
Changes to bus routes will begin on Saturday, March 21st, after 6:00 PM, affecting lines 146 and 147. Further route changes will occur at 7:00 PM (lines 111, 117, 158, 166, 507, and 521) and 9:00 PM (lines 111, 117, 146, 147, 158, 166, 507, 521, N22, N24, and N72).
Throughout Sunday, March 22nd, several bus lines will operate on shortened routes: 178, 503, 518, and 521. Additional bus route changes will be implemented throughout the day as the race progresses.
Tram line 28 will operate an extended route from Młociny Metro Station to Kawęczyńska-Bazylika throughout Sunday. Tram services will be disrupted on several streets, impacting lines 6, 9, 15, 16, 18, 22, and 24.
Participants in the 20th Warsaw Half Marathon will receive free access to Warsaw’s public transport (buses, trams, metro, SKM, KM, and WKD trains) within the first fare zone on Sunday, March 22nd, using their race bib number.
