The Warsaw Bar Association has suspended attorney Maciej Z., who was arrested on Sunday for allegedly sending fake bomb threats against high-profile officials while possessing unauthorized weapons and ammunition.
Disciplinary Action Against Attorney Maciej Z.
The Disciplinary Court of the Warsaw Bar Association met on Tuesday to address the case of Maciej Z. Katarzyna Gajowniczek-Pruszyńska, Dean of the Warsaw District Bar Council, confirmed the proceedings, noting that the attorney faces potential disbarment.
The presiding judge confirmed that Maciej Z. is suspended for the duration of his three-month pre-trial detention. A replacement counsel will be assigned to manage his current cases to ensure his clients remain represented.
Allegations of Hoax Threats and Illegal Possession
According to the Metropolitan Police, the suspect allegedly impersonated former public officials to send false reports of planned attacks against President Karol Nawrocki and Foreign Minister Radosław Sikorski. Media reports indicate he faces seven formal charges.
During a forceful entry into the suspect’s residence, officers seized laptops, flash drives, cell phones, service badges, and various firearms and ammunition. Searches of his vehicle uncovered further ammunition and ten artillery shells.
Context of Recent Security Alerts
Authorities clarified that the arrest of Maciej Z. is not directly linked to a separate, recent series of false bomb alerts targeting media outlets and government officials. Minister of the Interior Marcin Kierwiński noted that this arrest constitutes a distinct case.
The Ministry of the Interior has established a specialized task force involving cybersecurity experts and the Internal Security Agency to combat a broader surge of hoax threats. Between May 10 and May 15, police responded to twelve incidents, leading to the arrest of five individuals in connection with these reports.
