Warsaw: Man Dies After Fall, Second Body Found in Apartment

A man died after falling from the third floor of an apartment building in Warsaw’s Żoliborz district on May 4th, where a second body was also discovered.

Emergency Services Respond to Reports of Odor

Emergency services were called to a building on Powązkowska Street in Warsaw’s Żoliborz district on May 4th, following reports from residents of an intense, unpleasant odor emanating from an apartment.

Police attempted to contact the occupants of the apartment upon arrival, but received no response.

Attempted Escape and Fatal Fall

Firefighters were summoned with specialized equipment and attempted to enter the apartment via the balcony. Simultaneously, a man inside the apartment opened a window on the opposite side of the building, threw down a rope, and attempted to descend to the ground.

During this attempt, he fell from the third floor. Emergency services immediately began resuscitation efforts, but were unable to save his life.

Second Body Discovered

Upon entering the apartment, police discovered a second body, which was the source of the odor reported by residents. The circumstances surrounding this person’s death are under investigation.

Sources indicate the two men were brothers, both around 50 years old, and that one had been living with the decomposing body for several weeks; funeral workers required protective suits to remove the remains.

Ongoing Investigation

Police technicians worked at the scene late into the night, collecting evidence. Authorities are investigating the events, including why the man attempted to escape through the window.

The case is being investigated by the police under the supervision of the prosecutor’s office, who will determine the cause of death of the individual found in the apartment and the circumstances surrounding the fall.
