Two teenagers, a 21-year-old Ukrainian national and a 17-year-old Belarusian woman unlawfully flying a drone near Warsaw’s Royal Baths Park, prompting police intervention and internet debate over “neutralizing” claims.
Incident Details
The drone was piloted by a 21-year-old Ukrainian citizen, residing in Poland for about eight years, alongside a 17-year-old Belarusian woman who had recently traveled to the country. The operator allegedly parked the drone at the Belwedere Hotel before initiating the flight to showcase the Royal Baths Park’s scenery to his companion.
Police Intervention and Result
Police were alerted to the drone’s flight in the restricted area (DRA-RL0463 P21S), where authorization from the State Protection Service (SOP) is required. The drone operator and their associate were promptly located and detained by authorities. Both individuals were taken to the Wilcza Street police station for further questioning.
Law and Protocol Violations
Although the situation necessitated intervention due to the violation of guidelines mandating prior authorization for flights in these restricted zones, the use of the term “neutralizing” was inaccurate, as the operator voluntarily ended the drone’s flight upon police arrival.
