An off-duty police officer intervened on April 2nd in Warsaw’s Constitution Square to stop a man attacking a woman and her dog.
Attack on Constitution Square
The incident occurred at 6 a.m. on Thursday, April 2nd, on Constitution Square in Warsaw. An officer on their way to work on Wilcza Street witnessed a man brutally attacking a woman, striking her with fists and kicking her.
The woman managed to escape into a nearby gateway, at which point the attacker kicked her dog. He then attempted to attack another person but was subdued by the officer.
Officer Confronts Attacker
The attacker, while being restrained, threatened the officer with death. He was taken into custody at the Wilcza Street police station.
A breathalyzer test revealed the attacker’s blood alcohol level to be over two per mille.
Victim’s Account
The victim stated she did not know her attacker. She was walking her several-month-old puppy when she felt a strong blow to the back of her head, turned, and saw a large man.
Before she could react, he kicked her in the stomach and continued to strike her as she fled.
Police Commendation and Previous Case
The motive for the attack is unknown. Warsaw Police Headquarters praised the officer’s exemplary conduct, stating they are a police officer 24/7.
The same officer previously worked on a high-profile case in late February 2024, where they and other officers from the Violent Crime Unit apprehended Dorian S., the perpetrator who attacked a young Belarusian woman.
