Polish State Railways (PKP PLK) will implement traffic diversions from April 18, 2026, near Radość, Falenica, and Józefów due to tunnel construction.
Traffic Diversions Implemented for Tunnel Construction
Starting Saturday, April 18, 2026, drivers traveling between Radość, Falenica, and Józefów will face changes in traffic organization. These disruptions are due to the construction of road tunnels as part of the modernization of railway line No. 7 between Warsaw Wawer and Otwock.
The changes relate to work on new infrastructure projects that will replace existing level crossings. This is a key element of the Otwock line reconstruction, aiming to separate rail and road traffic and improve overall transport capacity.
Route Changes and Access
From April 18th, a detour will be in place for road traffic between Józefów and Radość. Drivers will be directed to use designated alternative routes, and access to properties will be maintained in selected areas. The changes will affect streets like Walcownicza and Izbicka, as well as Patriotów Street between Radość and Józefów.
Extensive Line Reconstruction Underway
This phase is part of a larger reconstruction of line No. 7 between Warsaw and Otwock. The project includes the addition of two new tracks to separate commuter and long-distance traffic.
Eight stops will be rebuilt, approximately 20 underpasses will be constructed, and three road tunnels—in Radość, Falenica, and Józefów—along with a road viaduct on the border of Warsaw and Józefów are planned.
Improved Traffic Flow Anticipated
Upon completion, the project aims to eliminate waiting times at level crossings, resulting in smoother and safer traffic flow. These road changes coincide with intensified railway work.
Train traffic on the SKM and Koleje Mazowieckie lines between Warsaw Wawer and Otwock was suspended from April 12th to 26th to integrate bypasses, build new switches, and continue work on infrastructure projects.
Funding and Project Costs
The modernization of the Warsaw Wawer – Otwock section is partially funded by EU funds. The value of funding from the FEnIKS program is 1.4 billion PLN net, with a total project cost of 1.7 billion PLN net.
