Warsaw Police Arrest Fraudster Targeting Elderly Woman

Warsaw police detained a 42-year-old man who defrauded an 83-year-old woman out of 100,000 złoty by posing as a police officer.

Fraudster Apprehended During Second Attempt

Police from Warsaw’s Śródmieście district arrested the fraudster while he was attempting to collect further funds from the victim. The man had initially gained the woman’s trust by impersonating a police officer.

The 83-year-old woman handed over money and jewelry valued at approximately 100,000 złoty, believing she was assisting in a police operation.

Operation Leads to Arrest in Włochy District

An operation by the Property Crime Unit of the Śródmieście command led officers to the Włochy district, where the suspect had previously victimized a resident.

Investigators determined the fraudster used the same “legend” method – posing as a police officer – to manipulate the victim into surrendering her assets.

Suspect Attempted Escape, Now in Custody

When officers moved to arrest the suspect on Fasolowa Street, he attempted to flee but was quickly apprehended and handcuffed. The suspect is a Polish citizen.

Charges Filed and Detention Ordered

The 42-year-old man faces two fraud charges and could face up to eight years in prison. A court has ordered him held in temporary arrest for three months, following a request from the Warsaw Ochota District Prosecutor’s Office.

The investigation is ongoing.
