Warsaw Police Raid Markets, Detain 18 Including Wanted Individuals and Foreign Nationals

Warsaw police detained 18 people during large-scale operations at city markets, targeting individuals evading justice and those illegally in Poland.

Market Raids and Broad Police Action

Yesterday, Warsaw police carried out extensive operations across the city, resulting in the detention of 18 individuals. The operation focused on apprehending those wanted by law enforcement and foreign nationals residing in Poland illegally.

The operation involved officers from various units of the Warsaw Police Headquarters, as well as units from Ochota and Praga Północ, in close collaboration with the Vistula River Border Guard and the National Revenue Administration.

Detainee Demographics and SIS Database

Police detained 18 individuals, including those staying in the country illegally and those with outstanding warrants. Three of the detainees were foreign nationals listed in the SIS (Schengen Information System) database.

Five detainees were handed over to the Border Guard with requests for decisions obligating them to return to their countries of origin. The group included 3 Polish citizens and 15 foreign nationals.

Locations Targeted and Collaborative Efforts

Key locations targeted during the operation included the market at Bakalarska Street, where officers worked with the Vistula River Border Guard and the National Revenue Administration, and the market at Różyckiego Street. Authorities controlled individuals present in these locations and inspected trading stalls.

Police dogs were used to detect prohibited substances. Close cooperation with the Border Guard facilitated efficient verification of the legal stay of foreign nationals. Over 400 individuals had their identities verified during the operation.

Seized Contraband and Further Investigations

A 45-year-old Nigerian citizen legally residing in Poland was detained with a significant amount of mephedrone and marijuana. Officers from the Warsaw III Police Department seized nearly 0.3 kg of THC plant material and several hundred cosmetics with counterfeit trademarks.

The National Revenue Administration seized nearly 12,000 cigarettes without Polish excise stamps, valued at approximately 12,000 złoty. Police also checked 52 drivers, including those providing passenger transport services.

These coordinated actions are crucial for the safety of Warsaw residents. Effectively detaining wanted individuals and controlling the legality of foreign nationals’ stay reduces crime and strengthens public order.
