A large fire broke out Sunday morning at a scrap yard warehouse on Zabraniecka Street in Warsaw’s Targówek district.

Fire Breaks Out at Scrap Yard Warehouse

On Sunday, March 29, around 8:50 AM, a large fire erupted in a warehouse hall at a scrap yard located at 5 Zabraniecka Street in Warsaw’s Targówek district.

The fire engulfed a facility storing paper waste, and firefighting operations are ongoing. The address is home to a company dealing with paper waste and secondary raw materials.

Firefighter Response and Scale of the Blaze

Firefighters were dispatched after receiving reports of heavy smoke emanating from the paper waste hall. Upon arrival, the fire was confirmed, and additional forces and resources were deployed from Warsaw.

Initial reports indicate the burning warehouse hall measures approximately 25 by 50 meters, with the fire spreading to about 70 percent of the building’s area.

Extensive Resources Deployed

More than 12 fire crews are working at the scene. Resources include a specialized chemical-ecological unit from JRG 6, a tanker from JRG 17, and a city operational group.

Police are securing the area, and as of now, there are no reports of injuries.

On-Site Coordination and Containment

Acting City Commander of the State Fire Service, Jakub Okólski, is present at the scene coordinating firefighting efforts.

The fire does not currently pose a threat of spreading to neighboring buildings, as there is no other development in the immediate vicinity of the hall. However, the nature of the stored material is complicating the extinguishing process.

The presence of paper waste inside the hall complicates complete extinguishment and thorough soaking of the debris.

Investigation Ongoing

The cause and exact circumstances of the fire are currently unknown. Emergency services are conducting operational and firefighting activities, and more information should become available after the situation is controlled and initial on-site procedures are completed.
