A 43-year-old Polish man was arrested by Warsaw police minutes after breaking into an oriental restaurant’s supply box on Szpitalna Street and fleeing with 60 kilograms of stolen rice.
The Theft and Immediate Apprehension
Officers from the downtown police station were dispatched to Szpitalna Street following reports of a break-in at the back of an oriental restaurant. The perpetrator had forced open a supply box, taking three bags of rice weighing 60 kilograms in total.
Witness accounts confirmed the thief loaded the heavy haul onto a bicycle and fled the scene. Responding officers from the Intelligence and Patrol Division tracked the suspect down on Chmielna Street just minutes after receiving the report.
Charges and Legal Consequences
Police recovered the stolen rice and the burglary tools used during the crime. The 43-year-old suspect, who has a prior criminal record for similar offenses, was taken to the Wilcza Street station.
Following a night in a police cell, the man was charged with burglary. He now faces up to 10 years in prison, with the case currently under the supervision of the Warsaw Śródmieście-Północ District Prosecutor’s Office.
