Capital City Development Authority accepting bids until March 12, 2026 for expansion of key Warsaw thoroughfare.
Tender for Design Documentation
The Capital City Development Authority (SZRM) is accepting bids until March 12, 2026, for the preparation of design documentation along with obtaining administrative decisions for the expansion of Aleje Jerozolimskie on Ochota. The project covers the section from ul. Juliana Ursyna Niemcewicza to pl. Zawiszy, with design work planned for 2026-2027.
Project Scope
The proceedings involve creating a complete construction project and detailed designs, as well as obtaining all necessary administrative decisions required to begin construction work in the next phase. The scope includes comprehensive modernization of the road layout in this key transport node.
The project will feature a second lane of Aleje Jerozolimskie, two-sided sidewalks, bike lanes, storm sewers, renovated lighting, technical infrastructure upgrades, and new greenery plantings in the road strip.
Grójecka Street Connector
The documentation will include a connector between Aleje Jerozolimskie and ul. Grójecka, as specified in the local spatial development plan for the pl. Zawiszy area. This connector is crucial for traffic organization around the square and linking the Avenue with Ochota’s street network.
Zawiszy Square Transformation
Changes in the pl. Zawiszy area follow the city’s adopted planning documents. In 2023, Marlena Happach, director of the Bureau of Architecture and Spatial Planning, noted: “Everyone knows Zawiszy Square and its complicated road layout, like a Gordian knot. This place needs to be changed.”
The plan includes a new section of the southern lane of Aleje Jerozolimskie, a modified route for ul. Grójecka to connect with the new lane, and the creation of green space with a linear park.
Safety and Coordination
The SZRM emphasizes that the new road layout will clearly divide space into zones for drivers, cyclists, and pedestrians, improving safety and comfort while strengthening the transport network in this part of Warsaw.
The design will be coordinated with the planned expansion of ul. Grójecka from pl. Zawiszy to pl. Narutowicza, as part of broader changes to Ochota’s street layout affecting both main arterial roads and the space at Zawiszy Square.
