The City Cleaning Board has planted 30,000 tulip bulbs along with new trees and shrubs on six Warsaw transport loops, aiming to brighten stations by spring.
New Green Enclaves Across Warsaw’s Transport Loops
In a bid to make stops greener and more welcoming for residents, 30,000 tulip bulbs, along with new trees and shrubs, have been planted on six transport loops. This effort turns the loops into verdant enclaves.
The initiative covers Sadybe, Szczęśliwice, Chomiczówka, Tarchomin Kościelny, Fort Radiowo, and Windmill Roundabout, aligning with horticultural guidelines that favor autumn planting for spring blooms.
Planting Flower Bulbs in Autumn for a Colorful Spring
30,000 tulip bulbs were sown this autumn, joining tens of thousands planted in past years. They will spring up at Windmill Roundabout and Sadybe, creating spectacular color displays.
Birches, Linden Trees, Hydrangeas, and Roses at Stops
On Fort Radiowo, the City Cleaning Board planted Betula pendula ‘Tristis’ birches whose drooping branches and yellow‑brown fall foliage add a decorative touch. In Sadybe and Chomiczówka, Warsaw linden trees (Tilia tomentosa ‘Varsaviensis’) now stand, boasting a distinctive narrow crown with a pyramid‑shaped top.
Further, hydrangea bouquets appear at Szczęśliwice, while Sadybe hosts “Hommage à Barbara” roses that bloom in deep, dark red. At Tarchomin Kościelny, ornamental rushes (trzcinników ostrokwiatowych) enhance the scenery.
Greening at Stops
The City Cleaning Board cares for greenery on 63 bus and tram stops, regularly watering, fertilizing, and maintaining trees, shrubs, and roughly 11 hectares of lawns. Other green spaces—street and park areas—are managed by separate entities, including Warsaw’s Greenery Board and district offices.
